Twinned Towns

Stamford was Twinned with Vence in the south of France in 1978 and also the town of Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic in 1999.

Vence is set in the hills of the Alpes Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France between Nice and Antibes.

Kutná Hora (Czech pronunciation: ['kutna? '?ora]; medieval Czech: Hory Kutné; German: Kuttenberg) is a city situated in the Central Bohemian Region of Bohemia, which is now part of the Czech Republic.

Stamford residents and their families visit the two towns regularly as well as many tourists from the twin towns to Stamford.

Gostomel, Ukraine

A letter is being sent to a senior military leader in Ukraine expressing a wish for Stamford to be twinned with the city.

The idea was stimulated by the arrival in Stamford last year of refugee and film-maker Natalia Yakoleva, whose home city is Gostomel, sometimes spelt Hostomel, near the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

While it is unlikely any progress towards official twinning is made until after the war with Russia, the letter will pave the way for this to happen and provide hope for residents of the city.
