WW1 event space installation

Trench- inspired installation and ‘Sketches of Stamford 1914’ by Sue Shields

The event space was conceived by local artists, Sue Shields. Over 300 sandbags were used to transform the medieval room at Browne’s Hospital into an intimate space for a 4 week programme which included of 14 free performances - free drama, poetry and music recitals on the subject of WW1 - as well as lectures and artefact roadshows.

Sue created the space collating the works form the education programme with her own piece ‘Sketches of Stamford 1914’. Children's work reflecting letters and poetry of the time as well as responses to the mementos and treasures owned by the soldiers were displayed on a trench inspired installation. More details…
